History:

Karachi the largest city of Pakistan today has a history that dates back for a few centuries now. Formerly a mere fisherman cabin of Kolache established by Sindhi and Baloch settlers on the coast of the Arabian Sea. The settlement evolved with time, quickly becoming an important hub due to the location along major trade between South Asia, Middle East Asia and Central Asia. The city began to gain importance in the end part of the 18th century when local chiefs began to put up defenses for invasion. By the beginning of the 19th century, a ruling of Taper dynasty of Sindh was in the control of the area.

In 1839, the British East India Company incorporated Karachi into its territory and from then Karachi thrived as the chief trading base and navy station. During the British rule of India Karachi went through Urbanization process and emerged into a modern city molding roads Railways and the Karachi port. While today’s Frere Hall and Empress Market indicate the era of growth, many such structures are yet to survive.

Post-independence in 1947 Karachi was adopted as Pakistan’s first capital because the city represented culture and economic development. Millions of migrants from India settled in the city to support as well as build the city, but the new settlers posed problems especially in the areas of shelter and settlements. Even though the occurrence of capital to Islamabad in the 1960s Karachi was still the financial and industrial hub of the country.

With a very high academic preparedness, IBA is home to many prominent business people and successful entrepreneurs in Bangladesh.

In the filed of medicine, Aga Khan University (AKU) has set the pace as an international university. AKU was founded in 1983 and is recognized as providing Medical education at its best with research facilities and established hospitals make it a benchmark in medical facility. Other universities include Dow University of Health Sciences, Hamdard university, Iqra university and Habib university all of which provide unique facilities and value for the student experience.

Universities in Karachi are the part of the academic institutions which have big impact on the development of human capital in Pakistan. The city has education facilities including some public institutions under pressure with environment challenges such as overcrowding, inadequate facilities, etc; but the educational institutions remain relevant, providing education to various graduates, who are active players in the local and international market.
